28 March 2012
Middle Temple Hall, London
Sir Willard White (bass-baritone)
Julius Drake (piano)
To include works by Schumann, Brahms, Mozart and Gershwin, together with spirituals and songs from Broadway shows.
World-renowned Jamaican bass-baritone Willard White comes to the Temple for a highly-anticipated recital with pianist Julius Drake. A celebrated operatic performer, having sung with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, New York City Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera, and at the Glyndebourne Festival, amongst others, White is also constantly in demand for concerts and recitals throughout Europe, the USA and in the Far East.
Willard White was awarded the CBE in 1995 and he was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2004. He is currently President of the Royal Northern College of Music.
“Pity anyone who appears on the same platform as baritone Willard White. He has so much presence he can eclipse an entire symphony orchestra and chorus with a mere twitch of an eyebrow.”
Stephen Pritchard, The Guardian, 26 September 2009
