Trockne Blumen is the title of one of the songs central to Schubert’s delightful Die Schöne Müllerin cycle. Schubert expanded on the theme in variations for flute and piano and here it is alongside the original song, performed by wonderful tenor Mark Padmore. Britten’s expressive Lachrymae for viola and piano is performed between two Musgrave items inspired by Greek legend.
